REASONS FOR SEEKING THERAPEUTIC HELP

People come for psychotherapy and counselling for many different reasons.  Some people seek help for current onset problems that they have recently encountered while others wish to work on longstanding difficulties that date back many years.  Therapists are trained, experienced professionals who have the skills to alleviate painful and distressing feelings.  Listed below are some of these problems which people seek help for:

  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Bereavement /coming to terms with loss
  • Depression or feeling down and sad
  • Difficult childhood
  • Divorce or end of a relationship
  • Emotional Abuse
  • Emotional emptiness
  • Family conflicts
  • Fertility issues
  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder
  • Low self-esteem
  • Identity issues
  • Infertility
  • Marriage or Relationship Issues
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-harm
  • Stress or Insomnia
  • Sex-related problems
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Trauma
  • Work-related stress

THE PROCESS OF SEEKING THERAPEUTIC HELP

It is common to feel uncertain about needing therapeutic help and many people often find it difficult to make the initial contact.  Therapists are sensitive to the anxiety that can be felt during this process and some people feel they are not ready to start therapy.  Bearing this in mind, it takes courage to commit to counselling/psychotherapy and the first step in the direction of working towards change.

When you feel that you are ready to make contact, you can send an email or leave a voice message and I will get in contact with you promptly.  Once we have agreed to meet, I will invite you to an initial consultation appointment to further discuss your reasons for seeking therapy.  The consultation session will allow us to think together about possible treatment and provide you with a sense of how therapy works.  If you have concerns or questions about embarking on a course of therapy, this is an opportunity to discuss them with me, without obligation.
